2016 Tomahawk 2 Mile: Murphy, Enterman Take Center Stage

Top Moment of the Meet (1): Enterman Takes Charge

Folks around here are getting used to the idea that Palmer Ridge is deep, very deep, and wins more than their share of events. So, when Emily Gentry went to the front of Heat 2 of the girls races and took up residence there, it had every appearance of yet another "ho-hum, Palmer Ridge dominates again" kind of setup.

Sometimes, though, it takes someone who isn't entirely clued in to the script the break the script. On Saturday, that person was Jensen Enterman. Enterman is a Cheyenne Mountain freshman still dealing with her first year of cross country. Being in the PPAC and all, it's plain that she already knows about Palmer Ridge, but maybe it isn't as plain to Enterman as some folks that she needs to take her places behind the blue-and-gold singlets of Palmer Ridge.

In any case, it was apparent in the final two laps that Enterman had loftier ideas of where her finish ought to be than the standard assumptions would dictate. With just over a lap to go, Enterman pulled alongside Gentry, caught a sideward glance from her adversary, and then simply blew on by. Enterman would end up opening a nine-second gap on Gentry in the remaining lap of the race.

Rumors around the west side of Colorado Springs have Enterman pegged as a tennis player. That may be true, but she showed the savvy and will of a pretty solid distance runner on Saturday as well.
