Important Note From CHSAA Office: Out-of-State Competition

Keeping you informed about all that is high school track and field in Colorado.

A message was sent today to all Colorado high school ADs from the CHSAA offices in Aurora. Though it was sent to ADs (for obvious reasons), the contents of the note are such that all athletes and their parents should be aware of as well. Here is the critical paragraph of the message from CHSAA:

Out of State Travel:

If your track and field athlete(s) are representing their school in any competition where high school uniforms are worn or registration, funds, transportation, etc. are supported by the high school, the CHSAA bylaws require a registered coach be present at the competition. The bylaw also states that the competition would count towards one of their 11 allowable meets. You also required to complete the Out of State Travel form (13) as well.

This regulation applies to track in a way it applies to few other sports. While it is relatively unthinkable for a basketball team, for example, to travel out of state and compete as a school team without their coach, it is a good deal more likely that a track athlete might be tempted to do this.

Please know that it is a violation of CHSAA rules if an athlete traveling to competition out of state is not accompanied by a CHSAA-registered coach from the school.
