Three races. Three wins.
We are about a month into the 2026 XC season, and so far nobody has been able to slow down Madison Lange.
The Cherokee Trail standout has opened the 2026 cross country season on an absolute tear, picking up wins at the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede, Cherry Creek Invitational, and most recently, the Liberty Bell Cross Country Invitational.

It was her latest performance that may have sent the biggest message yet.
Lange flew to victory at Liberty Bell in a blazing 16:30.29, taking down a loaded field that included Eaton senior Delaney Reuter, the reigning Nike Outdoor Nationals 5,000-meter champion. (Reuter would finish runner-up in 16:40.85.) Just like that, the sophomore added another statement performance to what is quickly becoming a very strong high school resume.
From Promising Freshman To State Champion
It was not long ago that Lange was simply getting her bearings in high school running. As a freshman last fall, she put together a very respectable first cross country season before saving one of her biggest performances for the postseason.
At Nike Cross Regionals, Lange earned her spot at the 2025 Nike Cross Country National meet. Once there, she finished 25th in the nation as just a freshman.
Fast forward to the spring and Lange continued her rise, ultimately capturing the Class 5A 1600m meter state championship in 4:52.32.
As she approached this fall, Lange already knew what it meant to be a winner.

Three Races, Three Statements
Lange has not wasted much time proving that this fall.
She began her season with a victory at the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede, in 17:43.10. Then came another win at the Cherry Creek Invitational, in 17:51.90. At Liberty Bell, she faced perhaps her hardest test of the fall so far. The field featured many of Colorado's top runners, including seasoned veterans and proven national level talent.
Among them was Reuter, a two-time defending Class 3A cross country state champion who finished 10th at Nike Cross Nationals last fall before capturing the 5,000-meter title at Nike Outdoor Nationals this past June.
It did not matter.
Lange took control and raced to the 16:30.29 victory, remaining unbeaten through her first three races of the season.
Three different courses. Three different fields. Same result.

Chasing The Highest Level
There is still a lot of racing left. The Colorado cross country season is only about a month old, and the biggest meets of the fall are yet to come.
However, Lange has already made one thing very clear: she is not just establishing herself as one of the best runners in Colorado—she is proving that she belongs in the conversation on the national stage.
A Nike Cross Country Nationals appearance as a freshman. A 5A 1600-meter state championship, boasting PR's of 2:10.71 (800m), 4:47.40 (1600m), 10:29.08 (3200m) and now an unbeaten start to her sophomore cross country season, highlighted by a 16:30.29 victory over one of the country's most accomplished returning runners.
There is plenty left to unfold in this cross country season.
