Already a year of broken records

You may not have noticed, but it's already been a year of broken records. And more broken records that you might think.

With George Washington setting a new Colorado all-classification record in the SMR8 on Friday evening with a time of 1:42.98 as our cue, let's take a look at the classification records that have already been broken this year:

  • GW's SMR8 relay team of Aliyah Briggs, Alexis Groce, Alexandria Groce, and Dior Hall also set a new 5A classification record with their effort.
  • Colt Sessions breaks his own 4A classification record with his 7-0 high jump at the Mullen Runners Roost on Saturday
  • Josephine Natrasevschi quietly took down the old 5A girls discus mark with her throw of 154-7 at the Poudre Invitational on April 4. Interestingly, the record does not change schools as the mark Natrasevschi beat belonged to Ft. Collins High School alum Sarah Stevens
  • Tabor Scholl's second-place effort of 5:02.19 at the Mullen Runners Roost takes Cruz Zarco's name off of the 2A girls 1600 meter record.
  • Kyle English probably has a few more 1A records to set in his high school career, but, for now, his 21-10.75 (+0.7) mark from the Elbert Invitational on March 29 puts the name of the Stratton junior on both 1A boys horizontal jump records
  • Speaking of names on two records, Rebecca Kaiser of Prairie now owns the 1A girls long jump record outright at 17-1 (+1.0) and has tied the 1A girls triple jump record at 34-3.5 (+0.4), both from the Weld Central Rebel Roundup on Friday.
  • Ginger Hutton affixed her name to the 1A girls 800 record with a 2:16.01 at the Max Marr Classic on Saturday, thus furthering the Hutton family influence over the 1A girls records.
  • And, Taylor Alexander's pole vault of 11-1 from the Don Osse Tiger Invitational on Thursday takes her own 1A girls record and puts it a little further out of reach.
