Jerald Taylor wins by 20 seconds
Jerald Taylor of Custer County crossed the line alone. The senior beat the rest of the field, led by Cole Sprout, by 20 seconds with a time of 15:40. Sprout just missed sub-16 and also gapped the rest of the field by 55 seconds.
Taylor's time would not be bested until the Division 1 race where he would have taken fifth.
Holy Family ran in two tight pairs placing 3-4-12-13-23 to take command of the team race.
As expected, Buena Vista newcomer Annie Hughes took the lead pack out in the girls race, but it was Sam Schaffer of Kent Denver that took control with 800m left. Schaffer put in enough of a surge to beat Hughes 18:53.6 to 18:58.5. Like the boys race the gap to third was substantial with Anna Ponzio finishing 22 seconds behind Hughes.
The Holy Family girls completed the sweep by placing all of the scoring 5 in the top 20. The Tigers scored 68, and St. Mary's Academy took second with 109.
