2016 Eagle Valley Invitational: Boese Stuns at the End

As the racers came in view of the finish, a change had been negotiated in the lead.

Winter Boese Delivers a Stunner Late

It was Eagle Valley's home meet. It looked like a great opportunity for Eagle Valley freshman Joslin Blair to put on a show for the local crowd.

For well over two miles, Blair held the lead and seemed to be safely in control. The one thing, however, that Blair hadn't done was put the field finally and fully away. The last half mile of the race takes the competitors out of view of all but the most determined spectators until the last 150 meters before the finish line.

Blair entered that final stretch in the lead but reemerged later watch Steamboat Springs' Winter Boese pulling away just as the finish line came into view.

Momentum was swinging hard in Steamboat's direction as the race ended. Freshman Maggi Congdon also pushed past Blair just before the finish, and Steamboat was well on its way to a 47-77 win over Battle Mountain. The Huskies, though, had mostly unloaded their varsity roster for this meet, so the margin of victory is perhaps a bit deceptive. Make no mistake, though, Steamboat is an emerging 3A powerhouse.

And, if Boese keeps running with this kind of determination and savvy, she may want to think about trading in the 't' in her first name for another 'n'.
