Scholl Splits Pagosa Springs for Top Spots

Sophomore Tyler Scholl of Middle Park laid down the gauntlet - catch me if you can.  For the first half of the race it appeared Scholl was going to win the contest handily.  Behind Scholl, Pagosa Springs' Jacob Hughes and Ethan Brown were accompanied by Moffat County's Riley Allen (photo, above, by Michele Bisbee). They seemed more focused on the task at hand rather than the task in front of them.

By the time the runners had rounded the outer edge of the lake though, Hughes had broken away from the chase group and was quickly reeling in Scholl. Soon enough Hughes had passed Scholl and charged the final straightaway, crossing as the victor.  Scholl maintained his second place position and Bruce completed the top three. With a 1 & 3 finish, it looked as if Pagosa Springs could be the team to beat, but Gunnison, led by Colton Stice and Jon Wilkinson, had the final say on the manner and finished first with 56 points. Moffat County also sneaked by Pagosa.  Scholl's Middle Park teammates claimed the final spot.

Making the cut as individuals, Montezuma-Cortez's Josh Ramos, Rifle's Jack Rubalcave, Coal Ridge's Justin Allen and Bayfield's Cody Speece will have a place on the line in Colorado Springs.
