Steamboat Sweeps Top Three Spots

Steamboat's Winter Boese ran a patient race. Sporting what looked like a new brace spanning the entirety of her right arm, maybe she felt like she needed to ease into her race. Teammates Maggi Congdon and Sadie Cotton had a different plan - take it out together and push the pace (photo, above, by Michele Bisbee). Only Rifle's Sarah Wagler threatened to disrupt what ended up as a 1-2-3 sweep for the Sailors.

While Congdon and Cotton controlled the race from the start, Boese came through the race mid-point in fifth place; trailing Wagler and Moffat County's Makenna Knez. Looking more comfortable as the race continued, Boese slowly closed the gap and soon was chasing down her teammates in a sprint to the finish. Congdon finished first in 19:04 and Cotton held off her advancing teammate for second. Isabelle Bonaface and Kandice Kittinger finished 11th and 17th respectively to stop the Steamboat score at 34.

Delaney Khung (5th) and Kori Mogensen (8th) lead Pagosa Springs to a second place finish with 84 points.  Gunnison and Moffat County secured the final two team state qualifying spots. Caisey Duran of Montezuma-Cortez and Rifle's Sarah Wagler and Ashley Manera advanced as individuals.
