2016 Colorado 3A Region 3: Faith, Peak to Peak Dominate

Top Moments of the Meet (3)

Peak to Peak takes the next step...

Peak to Peak had a good, but not great, day out on the course around Margaret Carpenter Rec Center. The top three girls teams, Peak to Peak, Holy Family and Denver North were so dominant that of the top 20 places, only two were not from those three schools.

Peak to Peak, as predicted, sent Quinn McConnell across the line first at 17:58. Kayla Young, perhaps feeling the energy of not going for it with the same gusto at Wiggins was second at 18:11. Anna Schults and Tiana Bradfield finished 3rd and 4th. Rachel Metzler was 9th. Ellie Triem wrapped up team scoring at 15th place. Peak to Peak scored a scant 32 points to win, but after the festival of Pumas, Vikings and Tigers in the top 20, things were a bit confusing for spectators.

When Holy Family put seven athletes in the top 20, spectators were left a little aghast wondering if the ultimate upset had gone down. Holy Family led by Kika Napierkowski in sixth, finished with 52 points. Denver North was a close third at 57.

It is wild to think that in order to leave with a plaque from this girls region, a team needed to put their entire varsity team in the top 20.

With the top three decided before a lot of teams had one runner finished, fourth place got pretty hairy. In the end, it was Jefferson Academy who won the derby for the final place at state. Junior Kara Dobbs managed to crack the top 20 finishing 17th. Bridget Lynch, Rachel Schlagel, Jennifer Torres and Caitlyn Martinez pulled off a gutsy performance to send themselves to a date in Colorado Springs next week.
