2017 USATF-Colorado State Indoor Champs: Lighter Turnout, Big Performances

Top Moments of the Meet (2): The Best Round of Girls Pole Vaulting of the Season

Tate Thornton was one of several girls enjoying a big day of vaulting on Sunday.

We've already made a pretty big deal on the site of Mia Manson's winning pole vault:

Manson's 12-7.5 clearance came within 1.5 inches of the national freshman record for the event and that proximity to a national record definitely adds a little suspense for her remaining indoor meets of the season. The vault also easily outstrips anything any other freshman girl in the state has ever accomplished with a pole.

But, Manson's electrifying vault performance was far from the whole story of the pole vault competition. In general, this was the best round of girls pole vaulting we've seen all season.

Abigail Gray went to a new PR of 11-7.5 before being edged out on misses by Erika Willis for second.

Tate Thornton finished fourth at 11-1.75, managing an indoor PR along the way. In fifth place, Brenna Kuskie's 10-8 tied her indoor PR.

Needless to say, there were quite a few smiles being flashed around by girls with poles in hand.
