2017 Ralston Valley Fun Run: A Big Day For 3A (updated)

Honorable Mention Top Performances:

We are used to seeing Sarah Yocum from Faith Christian dominate various short sprints. Friday saw Yocum take on a little different event program than we are used to seeing.

It is not strange to see Yocum attempt a long jump, which she won at 16-01. What is a little new is seeing Yocum take on throwing a shot put. Yocum tossed the orb 32-09.00 to take second in the meet. Perhaps Yocum is tipping her hat at some new events this season. Or, it is possible to see multis in her future.

Tyler Thimsen, the returning state jump medalist from Jefferson Academy returned to the track team fresh from the basketball court and showed some decent early season fitness. Tyler won the long in 20-07, the triple in 42-08.5 and took seventh in the high jump at 5-04. Not bad at all for one of the top returning jumpers in 3A.

Finally, although the wind gauges were still getting warmed up, there was hardly a gust to be seen. The flag on the pole at the south end of the track never seemed to register even the slightest of breezes. Mother Nature deserves a fist bump and a free stadium nacho for her performance on Friday night. Any time you can have an early March track meet without using the word "Snowpocalypse" something is going right.
