2017 Broomfield Shootout: A Day Late, But Still a Great Meet

Niwot Continues to Get it Done

Coming into the season, Niwot girls were not exactly a secret. Currently sitting atop the 4A virtual meet, any meet they come loaded for, teams will not have an easy time getting around them. Niwot can score in a lot of different places with a lot of different athletes. This makes them particularly dangerous around the end of May.

Someone who pulled her weight for the cause on Saturday was Mary Gillett. Gillett was 6th in the 100 (12.58), 2nd in the 200 (25.29), 1st in the 300 hurdles (45.89) and 3rd in the long jump. Another stand out performer for Niwot was Alexis Carroll. Carroll won the 100m hurdles (14.79) and the long jump (17-8.25) and managed an 8th in the pole vault (8-6)

Great teams have a knack for figuring out how to score the most points with the athletes that walk through their doors. This was evident in that Niwot also managed to score points in every relay except the 4x800. Gleaning 19 points from baton movement is a key to huge success at big track meets. This was a total team win. Racking up 75.5 points to take the win over second place 5A Loveland with 62.5 means that Niwot seems to be putting the pieces in to place for another run at some state hardware.
