Colorado 2A State Meet Preview: Campos Set To Three-Peat

TEAMS

On paper this looks like a two-team race.

Golden View Classical Academy and Banning Lewis Prep went head-to-head at Liberty Bell Cross Country Invitational with the title going to Banning Lewis by 16-points - but that was scoring five runners.

If we score four, it's 43-49, still in favor of Banning Lewis.

More recently these two squads battled at the 2A Region 2 Championships, and this time the result was flipped - Golden View came out on top 45-47.

It's of additional note that Golden View's Bobby Kiesewetter did not run at regionals - and he's consistently been their No. 1 runner throughout the season.

What this tells us, is that there's no big-time favorite. We've got a battle on our hands. And it'll come down to who shows up Saturday.

INDIVIDUALS

We may have a battle here...

Colorado Springs Christian's Andrew Bel looks to be the favorite. He's put together a consistent season of impressive performances, including a 15:56 PR from the Tri Peaks/Black Forest Cross Country Championships. More recently he torched the field to win the Colorado 2A Region 2 in 16:16.

He's run between 15:56 and 16:16 four times this season.

On multiple occasions Bel raced in larger-school invites this season, meaning he's battle-tested.

Bobby Kiesewetter has the opportunity to make it a Golden View Classical Academy sweep - since their squad is the favorite in the team race.

Kiesewtter hasn't raced Bel this season, but he has run 16:06 at the Windjammer Invitational, which he won. He did run at Liberty Bell, but not against Bel, who was in the Sweepstakes race. Kiesewtter finished second in the D3 race in 16:23.

A wildcard in the boy's race could be Max Miller - the Vanguard freshman has run 16:12 at the Cherry Creek Steve Lohman Invitational this season, but more notably, a 16:19 from the Tri Peaks/Black Forest Cross Country Championships

The boy's 2A race is scheduled for 10:20 a.m.
