Last year's 3A state contest came down to a difference of eight points between three teams--Berthoud with 89, Eaton with 88, and The Classical Academy with 81. The fact that none of these three teams graduated a lot from last year's squads is illustrated in the fact that these three are once again coming out at the top of the pile on any 3A analysis. All three teams have depth, all three teams have high-end point producers, and all three are represented across a spectrum of events.
We'll start with last year's state champion, Berthoud. It's hard not to think of Courtney Mills any time someone says Berthoud. She has become, in many respects, the face of the program. At this week's state meet, she is slated to run the 100, 300 hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. By any reasonable accounting, she should be putting at least 30 points--and...
