The Brooks PR Invitational features many Colorado athletes competing in the highly prestigious meet in a handful of events on Sunday, June 7th! Take a look at the names and where they rank in the competitive field to see how this group will perform and represent the state and make sure to tune in on FloTrack to watch live starting at 2:00pm MT!
Addison Ritzenhein, Niwot High School: Ritzenhein ran the two mile a year ago at the Brooks PR Invitational, placing 6th overall in a time of 10:08! She comes into this race with a lot of momentum, running some of her fastest times in the 1600m and the mile. Her strengths are in the longer races so with her improvement on speed, she has a chance to improve upon her 6th place finish from a year ago, where she will be pushed by the competitive field.
Madison Lange, Cherokee Trail High School: Lange will represent Colorado in the first Freshman Mile National Championship hosted at the meet, where she comes into the competition with an altitude PR of 4:52 in the 1600m, where she won the Class 5A state meet title with that time! She has also run 4:47 for the 1600m at sea level and placed well at Arcadia with a full mile time of 4:50.
Sloane Groendyk, Webber Middle School: Groendyk is one of the fastest girls from Colorado on the middle school side, coming into this meet with times of 2:18 in the 800m and 5:08 for the 1600m! Last year she placed 10th overall at the Brooks PR Invitational in the 800m running a time of 2:17. Groendyk is slated to race the mile with a seed time of 4:58 putting her right in the mix with the rest of the very competitive field!
Oliver Horton, Coronado High School: Horton won the Class 4A state title in the 3200m, finishing with one of the faster kicks, crossing the line in 9:10! Earlier in the season, he ran 8:56 for the 3200m and then went on to run 8:38 at sea level for the same race. Horton has definitely worked on his race tactics and will be very competitive in this field.
Hunter Robbie, Niwot High School: Robbie will also compete in the 3200m and has had his fair share of races with Horton. He barely lost to him early in the season, running 8:56 as well and finishing just behind Horton. He also ran 8:45 at Arcadia. Robbie did not fair as well at the state meet, but still placed 7th overall in the 3200m and has a lot of experience running well in the competitive fields.
Jay McDonald, Summit High School: McDonald will be running the 800m on Sunday, where he will have a rematch once again with Sullivan, who he raced against to win the Class 4A state meet title. In the process, McDonald ran a new personal best of 1:48 and almost broke the Colorado prep record! McDonald is looking to be in good shape and with a very competitive field, he has a good shot at running a new PR!
Quinn Sullivan, Niwot High School: Sullivan came away with a small personal best in the mile at the HOKA Festival of Miles, where he ran 4:04 and finished 7th overall in the elite section of the meet! As mentioned above, Sullivan placed 2nd in Class 4A for the 800m race, running 1:49 and putting right in the mix with the rest of the field.
Colton Goucher, Fairview High School: Goucher will be running in the Freshman Mile National Championship, coming into the field with a personal best time of 4:23 for the full mile that he most recently ran at the RunningLane Track Championships! Though this field is incredibly competitive, Goucher knows how to compete on the biggest stages and is riding a lot of momentum.
Jude Ritzenhein, Niwot High School: Ritzenhein will run in the first Freshman Mile National Championship, where he is ranked #2 currently in the field after his very impressive race at the HOKA Festival of Miles, running 4:07! He is also currently the 2nd fastest freshmen to run the mile this season, so this will be one of the races to watch considering he will face the top ranked freshman in Quenton Lanese, who has run 4:04 for the 1600m.
Abdinasir Hassan, Northfield High School: Hassan was ever so close to breaking four minutes in the mile at the HOKA Festival of Miles running 4:00.90! He finished 6th overall, running the #6 fastest time in the event for the season! Hassan will get another shot at breaking the four minute barrier on Sunday as he races the mile once again in a very similar field to Thursday's race.
Rocco Culpepper, Niwot High School: Culpepper was also very close to breaking four minutes in the mile on Thursday, where he ran 4:00.37 placing 4th overall in the championship division of the HOKA Festival Miles! Similar to Hassan, he will have another chance to do it on Sunday with another very competitive field similar to who he raced against on Thursday.
