One thing we can be certain of this fall is that we'll have a new 5A girls individual state champion. And, if track this spring was any indication, we could see a lot of shuffling of the 5A girls deck from 2012.
Here's a quick look at last year's medalists:
1. Heather Bates, Pine Creek - Graduated, moving on to the University of Colorado
2. Emma Gee, Legacy - Gee had a spectacular sophomore year that included a solid second in state cross country. From there, she went on in track to post top times of 5:01.73 and 10:58.29. Gee has both speed and endurance and that should serve her well in the season to come. She may need to find a new partner to train with this fall, however. There aren't many people who can keep up the kind of pace Gee moves along at.
