Sometimes you just have to get the opening act to leave the stage before the show everyone came for can take place. And so it was with the lightning at DeKoevend Park last night. Lightning puts on a pretty decent show now and then, but nobody comes to the meet for an exercise in lightning appreciation.

Apparently, though, Cerake Geberkidane was watching the lightning--and picking up a tip or two about being as fast as. Geberkidane wiped out a course and meet record with a blistering time of 15:12. That left Mountain Vista's Connor Weaver in second by a mere 54 seconds. It's difficult to say where Bailey Roth might have finished, but Roth's DNF mooted that point. On this day, Geberkidane had no peers.
