Trinidad's Nick Paradiso casts a large shadow on the 3A boys shot put and discus fields. Colorado Track XC file photo.
One of the curious things that happened this last weekend was that very few 1600 times were improved. That holds true more or less across the board, not just in 3A boys. Yet, almost no 1600 scratches were seen. While I cast about for a while for the explanation for that, we'll note that 3A boys distance times required to qualify were easier through all distance events than last year, and that despite a flurry of sub-2 800s. With the exception of high jump and triple jump, field event qualifying was more difficult this year than last.
Black marks = last year's qualifying minimums, red marks = minimum mark for top 18 before league meet week, blue marks = 2014 qualifying minimums, number in parentheses = number of scratches from top 18
