The premise behind this article is simple. Boys typically advance more as cross country runners from freshmen to sophomores and sophomores to juniors than as juniors to seniors. So, if you are looking for boys cross country teams on the cusp of making big strides forward next year, it makes sense to look at their current freshman and sophomore classes (the same assumption doesn't work nearly as well for girls where most of the impact from year to year tends to come with incoming freshmen).
So, I broke down the rankings of teams by freshman and sophomore classes. And, frankly, there are some teams in this state with very, very good freshman and sophomore classes. So good, in fact, you begin to wonder how much space there is above them before they hit some sort of ceiling.
