Was it kind of a foregone conclusion in your mind that you'd be signing with CU, or did you have to seriously weigh multiple options?

When starting the recruiting process, I was very blessed to have so many outstanding schools looking at me. In the beginning I really didn’t know where I wanted to go. When I started taking officials I decided to only commit to one visit at a time as to not get to overwhelmed and have each visit blur into the next. The University of Colorado was my second visit I took, and once there I knew it was the place. Everything clicked for me and I felt I could 100% trust the coaches without looking back. The other people on the team--both men and women--have similar aspirations to mine, which helps in making that transition from home to college. I feel that everyone wants to help each other become a better versions of themselves, both during running and away from running.

What is your intended course of study at the University of Colorado?

As for my course of study, I was thinking of majoring in running...however I couldn't find that under the undergraduate degrees, haha. Really though, I am planning on integrative physiology. Many of the girls on the team are majoring in it, so it will be nice to have teammates also in that area of study to bounce things off of.

You have a reputation for racing a lot, probably more than any other high school girl in Colorado. Tell us a little about that--what is your motivation for racing as frequently as you do?

Yes, I do have a reputation for racing a lot! Thank you for noticing, though I wish sometimes every race result wasn’t posted online. I live in a community where it’s only my family and I that enjoy running seriously and, with only having my brother as a true training partner, it can get pretty lonely up here. My family and I race as a social outlet and a training stimulus. A large majority of the races we do we use as our weekly progression run, making it a way more enjoyable training session to do alongside other runners. I am so thankful that I’ve done so many races; because that’s the way my family and I have been able to travel not only the state but the country as well. As I like to say, “I like running, but racing is my passion.”

What's your favorite distance to race?

Hmmm, that’s a hard one because each one has its own unique type of pain. However if I had to choose, my favorite distance to race would have to be the 1600m. I thoroughly enjoy the mix of speed and aerobic stamina that it has to offer.

What races do you intend to compete in during the cross country post-season?

Foot Locker Regionals is the main one that I am focusing on, and I will sprinkle in some road races as well.

Do you have a favorite race memory from your high school career to date?

I have two favorites, if you don’t mind that I share. First, when Kelly Robinson and I battled for the win in the 1600m at State my freshman year, running in a complete downpour (Colorado Track XC file photo, left). Second, was when I ran my PR 1500m this summer at the Portland Track Festival. The race was at night, underneath the lights.  Music was blaring over the stadium loud speakers. The “Who’s Who” of the track & field world were there spectating and competing… Jordan Hasay, Shannon Rowbury, Chris Solinsky, Matt Scheer, just to name a few.  I sat on the high jump pit next to Mo Farah and his family before my race. The atmosphere was electric. We had a rabbit, and there was great competition. I was so lost in the moment of racing I didn’t realize my time when I crossed the line. My dad/coach ran over to me after my race and gave me the biggest hug, he was so excited for me!

What's left to accomplish while you're still in high school?

What’s left for me to still accomplish in high school, is to run to the ability that I know I am capable of, and push the limits.  I want to inspire other runners to never give up on themselves. I want to leave my high school running career with a continued love for running and a desire to conquer greater things.
