Tell us why you chose UNC to continue your education and your running career.
I chose UNC to continue my education because their teaching program (which I want to major in) is one if the best, and they make it clear that athletes can be great students as well. I chose to continue my running career here because the coach and team seem encouraging and positive, and the coaching style seems great.
What do you plan to study at UNC?
I plan to study music education.
What's it like to run cross country in what could be argued are the most distinctive uniforms in the state?
Running cross country in our checkered uniforms is so fun; random people will comment on them, making us feel popular, and its great to be able to see a teammate from far away.
You've run cross country the last three years of high school, but in track you go a lot shorter--emphasizing the 400 and 800. Do you know if the plan to try to keep you at those distances in college or go longer?
I think the plan is to make me mainly an 800 runner, which is funny as it has been my least favorite race in my high school career. I may however still run some 400s or go up to the mile. I'm not completely sure though.
Of all the events you've done in high school, which is your favorite, and why?
My favorite event I've run in high school is the 4x4. I love relays because I feel like track is mainly an individual sport, but relays bring in the team aspect. Also, being the last leg in the 4x4 is the greatest feeling. I love the thrill of maintaining our lead or pulling ahead when possible.
Pick a favorite moment for us across your entire high school experience.
My favorite moment from high school was at the track league meet my junior year, when I raced Lexi Reed in the 800. She is an amazing runner, and I was definitely intimidated going into the race. I won in the last 100 meters, winning a new league record, and we both PR'd. We now wish each other good luck at every meet we see each other.
