There was a lot of rust to be shaken off on Friday night--and nowhere was that more evident than the triple jump--but there was also a lot of shine to be seen as well.
All things considered, the shine came out ahead.
We'll focus first on the high school contingent that was present for the meet.
Things didn't come easily for the high school group, but they weren't supposed to either. After all, four Division I schools--Air Force, Colorado, Colorado State, and New Mexico--brought sizable contingents of athletes to this meet.
In a reversal of some outcomes when they dueled as high schoolers, Lettia Wilson of Colorado State took a 60-meter title from Shayna Yon. But, Yon wasn't exactly slow, taking fourth in 7.69. Just a hair behind Yon were the sisters Groce at 7.70 and 7.75. So, very quickly, all three marks find a place on the national leaderboard.
