The rule is, you are supposed to be a little rusty at the beginning of the season.

And, most people played by the rule. But, there will always be those who test the boundaries of the rules. It just seems like there were more of those than usual this time around.

There were Caleb Ojennes and Duane McClurkin, throwing rules out the window and battling down the entire finish straight of the 400 to times of 49.12 and 49.43.

There was Katie Rainsberger, rolling out nearly perfectly even splits to a 2:14.90 in the 800. For an encore, she finished her first-ever high school in 10:53.22. No rust there. Kind of lost in the shock-and-awe of Rainsberger's 32 was the 11:19 posted by Lauren Ogg.

As an aside on Rainsberger, you may want to catch her when you can; word is she won't be racing a great deal inside the borders of the state this spring. At least we can say with reasonable certain...
