Lots of folks will be taking aim this weekend at Zack Retzlaff's state-leading 1:58.83. Photo by Alan Versaw.
Frankly, this past weekend was the warm-up act (and we were thankful beyond words for all the warming and melting it provided). It's this week that the real show gets underway.
In addition to New Balance Nationals Indoor in New York City, which will host about a dozen Colorado competitors, you have all of the schedule at the bottom of this article to look forward to.
Colorado Track XC will be on-site with coverage at Rifle, Valor Christian, and Pueblo Centennial. But, in keeping with our usual practice, we'll be collecting results and looking for insights from meets all over the state, plus one or two outside the borders.
There are several meets on this week's schedule that have high potential to be turning out a number of outstanding performances, to include City of Ft. Collins vs. City of Littleton, RE-1J, Thornton, Golden Spikes #1, Rifle, Weld Central, Arvada City, Aurora City, Banana Belt, Delta, Harrison, ThunderRidge, Valor Christian, and Windsor. While there is no one dominant mega-meet this weekend, there are several mid-size meets with plenty of pop coming up over the next five days.
For most programs in the state, this is opening week of the competitive track season. Typically, that produces a good number of marks that aren't equaled for several weeks. Adrenaline, and lingering soreness following, tends to work that way.
The exciting glimpses of things that are to come we had this past weekend should be multiplied a few times over this weekend. Fasten your seatbelts, and settle in for a full week of action!
If you have heat sheets you'd like to have posted, please send the flat html files my way and I will get them up. As fair warning, however, if they come Saturday morning, I may or may not be able to get them up before I'm gone to a meet myself.
Meet results are always posted as quickly as possible after arrival in my inbox. It is not a problem if a later set of meet results with corrections from the first set arrives. Around here, it's about accuracy, and posting a corrected set of results is never an issue.
