I hadn't been to French Field in three years, but I had heard rumors of the venue's tendency to yield illegal times because of wind. True or not, there was very little wind throughout Saturday's events.
The sunny, calm morning started off with a series of prelims for the straightaway hurdle races, 100m and 200m dashes, along with an elite section of the 3200m run.
Javan Lanier Javan of Regis took the win in the 100m prelims with 10.88 and then came back later in the afternoon to win the final with 10.91. Audra Koopman of Fort Collins dominated the girls 100m dash with a prelim time of 12.19 and then came back in finals to win with 11.92 into a -1.7 headwind.
Kayla Young of Denver North crushed the girls' elite 3200m run with 11:11, winning by 35 seconds, which would rank her third in the state for the event.
