When the Tri Valley League was created, it was something of a small-school 4A league, covering much the same geographic territory as the larger-school 4A Northern League. Traditionally, the Northern League has gotten the better of the Tri Valley in cross-league cross country competition, but there are indications that the Tri Valley is on the rise.
