Northridge's Josh Torres will have folks other than Andrew King to glance back at in Wednesday's big Greeley showdown. Photo by Ben Hershelman.
If you're not from Greeley, you need not apply. No Eaton, no Valley, no excuses. Either you're from Greeley or you don't race here.
That narrows it down pretty quickly to five--Frontier Academy, Greeley Central, Greeley West, Northridge, and University. And it all gets settled at Josephine Jones Park. An educated hunch would be that this park has inadequate parking for a larger meet but is otherwise decently suited for a cross country competition.
And, you will note that Frontier Academy held their big guns out of their home meet on Friday but has them ready to go for this one. Could that mean FA is taking aim at this title? We'll find out on Wednesday. If FA goes out and races, it seems reasonable to count them the boys favorite for the inaugural City of Greeley title. Doubtless, though, it would be a worthwhile prize for any of the other assembled teams to steal away.
The girls title prospects, though, seem to be tilting strongly in the direction of Greeley West. As the other teams compare the weapons in their respective arsenals they likely come to the conclusion that Sparta is loaded this year. Nothing, however, is decided until the race is run. I may have just stolen that speech directly out of the mouth of Rich Davis.
To help you know what to expect, I've linked the start lists and virtual meet analyses on the five teams showing up. Be aware that all the usual caveats of virtual meets apply here as well.
