When one thinks of the words 'cross' and 'country' together--without the context we know as racing on manicured fields, trail systems, sidewalks and sometimes roads--what mental image comes to mind?

Aspen High School sits just off the winding road that leads to one of the most photographed views in Colorado, the Maroon Bells. Perhaps it was this familiar color of the nearby rust-red colored tri-angular peaks that made the Telluride Miners feel so welcome? Whatever it was, they were not to be conquered on this day.
