As it turns out, that assessment was a wee bit premature.
Paul Roberts and Katie Rainsberger have been named to the USA Junior team for Great Edinburgh XC 2016. The meet pits teams from Great Britain, USA, and Europe against one another and will be held Saturday, January 9, at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh, Scotland.
For both Roberts and Rainsberger, this is a second opportunity to wear USA colors in international cross country competition, as both competed at the World Cross Country Championships in China nine months ago.
Roberts will be joined on the USA Junior Men team by Phillip Rocha, Austin Tamagno, Garek Bielaczyc, Christian Liddell, and Peter Seufer.
Rainsberger will be joined on the Junior Women team by Maryjeanne Gilbert, Carleen Jeffers, Amy Davis, Devin Clark, and Judy Pendergast.
