Anderson an Unknown No Longer

Colin Anderson is no longer an unknown. At Tuesday's RE-1J meet in Longmont, Anderson came to run. The Lyons High School senior was all about business, running four races and prequalifying in three of them.

His day started off by running the anchor leg on the 3200 meter relay (2:05 split), followed by the 1600 meter run (4:33), the 800 (1:59), and ended by anchoring the 1600 meter relay. A busy day for someone who was running his third meet in six days. If there was an MVP award at this meet Colin would have gotten the award. When asked if he expected the outcomes he achieved he said, “Pretty much this was the toughest schedule that I have had to run. I wanted to get qualified in the 3200 meter relay, 1600 and 800.” He accomplished all of that on Tuesday. Looking ahead, Anderson added, “The next big meet is Boulder County, but the ultimate goal is to break the state 2A 800 meter record, which is 1:56.” Opposing 2A schools and coaches have good reason to be on the lookout for this talented runner.

Other highlights from Tuesday’s RE-1J Meet

Elizabeth Stover had a stellar day for the Trojans, winning 3 events and prequalifying in two of those. (PV 12’ – 6”, long jump 16’ 2.25”, and 100 hurdles in 15.78). For good measure, Stover added a leg on Longmont’s winning 4 X 100 team.

The Erie boy’s team was the surprise team of this meet. The Tigers finished third, a mere .5 point behind second-place Niwot. This team will surprise many people as the year progresses. Erie did it with performances all over the track and field. Erie placed three scorers in the discus, led by James Tallent’s winning toss of just over 131’.

In the shot put it was Longmont who placed three scorers, including winner Casey Honeycutt. Longmont also got a stellar performance from Beau Brittenham who won the high jump with a state qualifying mark of 6’ -3” and went over 44 feet in the triple jump.

Kelly King (Silver Creek) won both the 800 and 1600 meter races by substantial margins.
