Raising the Bar

A Demon was observed falling from the sky in Rangely yesterday.

Fortunately, the object was wearing the red uniform of the Glenwood Springs Demons and landed safely in the high jump pit at the Rangely Panther Invitational.

It's difficult to think of a more out-of-the-way locale for the state's new high jump standard for the season to come from, but Donnie Jennert's jump of 6-8 added three inches to the best jump of the season.

Despite Jennert's remarkable leap, the Glenwood Springs boys finished third in the meet, behind 5A schools Grand Junction and Fruita-Monument. The Lady Demons, however, narrowly missed toppling Grand Junction for the girls' title, falling by a margin of 118 to 114.
