Following the state track meet last month, one coach was heard to exclaim, "We were one girl away from winning a state championship... if that girl was Emily Blok!"
For her accomplishments this spring, Blok, a junior at Conifer High School, was named today as the Gatorade Athlete of the Year for girls track 2008. Blok won 4A state titles at 100, 200, and 400 meters, and narrowly missed winning the long jump as well--placing second in that event. Blok also recorded the top times in the state in all classifications at 100 and 200 meters. Her best 400 meter time for the spring narrowly missed the top spot in the statewide rankings.
On top of her accomplishments on the track oval, Blok is also an all-state clarinetist.
