The second day schedule at the USATF national junior olympics is largely devoted to the completion of the multi events--the boys decathlon and the girls heptathlon. While Colorado had no results to match up with Tuesday's steeplechase results, there were a couple of high finishes in the decathlon nevertheless.
In the young men's decathlon, Chaparral's Mike McPherson put a total of 6223 points on the board to finish in fifth position. McPherson fared best in the explosive events, putting up his best performances in the 100, 110 hurdles, long jump, and 400.
Kobi Rex, formerly of The Classical Academy but enrolled at Lewis-Palmer for this fall, finished seventh in the intermediate boys decathlon. Rex's top events over the two-day competition were the high jump and pole vault. And, where many competitors lapsed a little in the 1500 meters, Rex more than held his own in the final event of the competition. Rex finished the competition with 5008 points.
Today's competition in Omaha will feature several field event finals, the finals of the young men's 5000 meters, and opening rounds of the 800, 200, and 4 X 400. Colorado Runners will continue to bring you results from Colorado's top athletes.
