The Tri League is, to say the least, an interesting league. I gather that the moniker "Tri League" means that what is now one league was at some point in time three leagues.
Population has dropped like a rock in the southeast corner of the state, and these schools--less Las Animas and Lamar--are all that is left of a once thriving region south and east of La Junta. Track teams in these parts tend to be tiny. Enrollments are very small. Even though I scored only 15 deep here, most events don't reach to 15 deep. Yet, the region still produces much of the best small-school track and field in the state.
