TCA Polar Bear Slated to Hit the Track February 18

Last year's 1000 meter field proved to be exceptionally competitive.

The TCA Polar Bear is back for a second year. And you can be a part of it.

The meet's order of track events goes: 1000, 600, 200 Hurdles, 2000, DMR. Meanwhile, shot put, discus, and high jump will be contested at field event venues. I have a request for another heat or two of the 600 after the DMR so athletes can more realistically double the 1000 and 600. I'll do that if there's enough interest (you need to tell me if you're interested).

The entry fee is $10 for all the events you want to take on from the listed set of events.

Coaches bringing a school "team" (understanding this meet is not part of the CHSAA season) should do entries on Colorado Track XC. You will need the password. Email me if you are a coach wanting to do entries and I'll send you the password.

Club coaches will probably find it easiest to fill out a spreadsheet of entries and email that back to me. I've attached a spreadsheet to use below. If club coaches know how to navigate the online registration system, they are welcome to use that system, but they may have to add some athletes to their rosters.

Those entering as individuals need to email me directly in advance of the meet. You can find an email address for me in the banner area at the bottom of this page. Those who show up on meet day will not be seeded but placed in the slowest heats.

All athletes must bring a signed waiver form and the $10 entry fee on meet day. I ask coaches who are bringing multiple athletes to gather those waivers and entry fees up for us (either in advance or on the day, but before the meet begins) and hand them to us in a single envelope rather than having each athlete check in individually. That will save everyone a LOT of time.

In event of unfavorable weather for Saturday, February 18, the alternate date for the meet is Monday, February 20. In either case, the start time is 9:30 AM. The finish time is when we get done. The meet will run on a rolling schedule. I do not anticipate being done later than noon. There are several restaurants within a mile of TCA including fast food, pizza, Chinese, and Mexican cuisine. We will make a call on weather by not later than Thursday, February 16.

Track events will be hand-timed. The distances are purposely non-standard distances. In the case of the distance events, the point is to start to learn to feel how to race again. In the case of the hurdles, the point is to get the feel for going over hurdles spaced at 35-meter intervals again without the added rigor of the full 300 meters of the standard high school race. The plan is for four attempts per athlete in the shot put and discus.

Results will be posted on Colorado Track XC. There will be no awards.

You must bring your own batons, shots, and discs. Discs will be thrown onto a turf field, so you can bring your nicer discs without fear of getting them chipped up and scratched. Our throwing venues are brand new and state of the art. Please remember to take your implements home with you!!
