It's almost as reliable as our daily sunrise.
Once a year, Colorado will send a large delegation of athletes with dreams of a little California glory to Arcadia for the massive Arcadia Invitational. I've never been there--and probably will never go--but I've heard it's two full days of non-stop track and field action. Plus a bit of dealing with getting around in sunny southern California (which ain't always easy).
Getting entered into distance events comes with its own challenges for the Colorado athletes as no altitude conversions of times are made for qualifying. That begins to be an issue at 1600 meters and becomes a bigger issue at 3200 meters. So, if the list of athletes below seems to underestimate athlete ability in a case or two, that would be your most likely explanation of why. It may also help to explain why some of the same athletes you see on the list below were at Chandler Rotary two weeks ago earning qualifying marks.
In any case, here is a list of Colorado athletes who will be competing in the Saturday Night Invitational Events:
Isaac Green, Monarch - Boys Invitational 800, Boys Invitational Mile
James Lee, Silver Creek - Boys Invitational Mile
Andrew Lester, Palmer Ridge - Boys Seeded Mile
Quinn McConnell, Peak to Peak - Girls Invitational Mile
Jeremy Meadows, Palmer Ridge - Boys Invitational Mile
Maria Mettler, Air Academy - Girls Invitational 3200
Madison Mooney, Broomfield - Girls Invitational Mile
Brie Oakley, Grandview - Girls Invitational 3200
Charlie Perry, Monarch - Boys Seeded 3200
Ethan Powell, Air Academy - Boys Seeded Mile
A few Colorado teams have loaded up relays for runs at major marks as well. Relays run on Friday evening. Colorado teams with big relay dreams include:
Monarch Boys - 4x800
Monarch Girls - 4x800
Peak to Peak Girls - 4x800
Other Colorado athletes are competing over the weekend. I won't go into the detail necessary to list all the others here, but results will be posted as they become available.
Additionally, Anna Hall of Valor Christian will be competing in the Arcadia heptathlon. The Arcadia multis begin today.
