1A Boys, 2018

Seth Bruxvoort has been lately coming into his own as a distance runner and could be an even bigger weapon for Heritage Christian Academy next spring.

A good number of 1A's boys programs seemed to be in some measure of rebuilding mode this spring.

One of the teams that won't be in rebuilding mode next spring figures to be Heritage Christian Academy. A very young team this year will be magically transformed into a deep and experienced team next year.

Top distance threats Keaton Case, Seth Bruxvoort, and Isaiah Bowsher all return next spring. Sprinter Jojo Bork, who was getting his feet wet as a freshman this spring, comes back older, stronger, and wiser. Hurdler/sprinter Josh Damir comes back for another round.

Others, like Josiah Bowsher, Steven Schimack, and Levi Friedrich, figure to play larger roles next spring than this spring.

Field events still look a little thin for the Eagles, but it may not matter once Joe Packard's boys in green are done putting up points on the track.

Once again, Lake City looks to be the heart and soul of the resistance. The Fourteeners lose Chris Athey--and that hurts--but Gabe Murphy, Riley Moore and Izaac Borchers each have at least another year in them. It remains to be seen if the fourth leg of the 4x800 can be filled in a manner that keeps the LCCS string of state titles in that event alive.

McClave and Creede represent more remote threats. The problem for both McClave and Creede is a problem of numbers. Once past Darian Herrera and Ian Beckett, McClave doesn't have any additional obvious threats to score state meet points (at least that we know of yet). The same could be said for Creede and Regnor VonDedenroth and Casper Freedle.

There might be times and places where two significant state meet scoring threats would suffice for a state title run. Next spring, however, will not be one of those times and Jeffco Stadium won't be the place--at least not next spring.
