Tell us first what made the decision for Stanford? Certainly, you had other possibilities, but what sealed the deal for Stanford?

To me, Stanford is the epitome of both athletics and academics, and the combination of the two is important to me. When I went on my visit, I absolutely loved the coaches and girls, which really sealed the deal.

What do you plan to study at Stanford?

I plan to study human biology.

Your performances took a big jump between your sophomore and junior years. What's the story behind that?

The big difference for me was probably focus. My coach always tells me that I control my attitude and my effort. Focusing on those two qualities as well as turning up the intensity in my training helped me improve. I also gained a lot of confidence on the track between 10th and 11th grades.

If you had to choose between jumping and sprinting, which would it be?

Definitely sprinting. Although I love jumping, it's kind of the event where I just get to have fun. I don't put nearly as much pressure on myself when I'm jumping compared to when I race the 200 or 400. I like the competitiveness in the sprints, and the sprint relays have always been one of my favorite things about track.

Is there any one moment from your high school career that stands out as a personal highlight for you?

I can't say that there's been just one highlight I can think of, but I have loved competing at the state meet. Jeffco has such a unique energy that makes state track really special. I also love being able to go to state with a team of 15 or more girls because I know not everyone gets that opportunity. Competing for the team's sake is much more fulfilling.

Do you have a goal or two for this spring you're willing to share with us?

I have several big goals for this spring. My first and most important goal is one that I share with my team--to win the 4A state title. The last time we placed first was my freshman year, and in spite of how well we performed this past May, I think placing second was a bit of a disappointment. I'm hoping we can reclaim the title for my senior season. In terms of personal goals, I would like to defend my own state titles and hopefully add a few more, but the 4A sprinters and jumpers this season sure won't make that an easy task.
