Results from Midwest Distance Gala/Golden West

Each of the three Colorado contestants at the Midwest Distance Gala came away with personal best marks. It may be, however, that each was looking for a little more. Track has a way of doing that.

In the 800, Ryan Van Portfliet turned a very nice 1:56.99 in the 800. That was good enough for 18th of 25 in a very tough field. Ohio's Danny Neff won the event in a blazing 1:50.02.

Teammate Danny Nicolls managed to climb a little higher in the standings in the 2 Mile Run, finishing seventh in 9:16.00. The star-studded field saw three contestants dip below 9:00, led by Lukas Verzbicas in 8:53.98.

And, finally, Walter Schafer competed in the 1 Mile Run. Rhode Island's Andrew Springer took the title in 4:02.70, while Schafer finished ninth in a very respectable 4:14.57.

Meanwhile, out in Folsom, CA, Mason Finley dominated the throwing events at the Golden West Invitational. Finley's throw of 69-6.25 won the shot put competition by a staggering 14 feet. Finley also won the discus with a throw of 207-2, almost 20 feet ahead of the nearerst competition.

If photos from either of these meets become available to me, I will post of photo of one of the Colorado contestants.
