Summer Races Heating Up: Big Weekend On Tap

The last weekend in July isn't just bringing a heat wave across Colorado, it also has two fairly competitive races on tap, that's for sure.

For those looking for a summer rust-buster, the Heritage Eagles 5k is set to run Saturday morning on the Liberty Bell course in Littleton. It's the fastest course during the season, so it could provide runners with a chance to compare their late-July fitness with their in-season fitness in September. Additionally, the race should draw some fairly stout competition across all age-groups.

Deep in the heart of Colorado, the National High School Trail Championships will take off in Salida. This one is already looking to be an insanely competitive race, particularly on the girl's side. Soleil Gaylord leads a star-studded field that includes 2x state champion Maggi Congdon, and Isalina ColsmanI'll be on site providing coverage for this one.
