Week Five Coaches Poll: Girls

The favorites have remained the favorites nearly since the first poll, but this week we finally have a shake-up worth noting.

We've got a few solid weeks of racing ahead of us, so we'll likely see some of these rankings challenged or solidified.

5A

The top ranked squad in the country, and the state, remains just that this week. Mountain Vista gave no one any reason to doubt their No. 1 ranking.

Behind them, however, we saw a lot of shifting. It seemed like everyone felt like swapping out rankings, even just for one week.

Cherry Creek and Cherokee Trail swapped roles this week, just like Boulder and Fairview. Two weeks ago Boulder was ranked No. 10, and now they've reached their highest spot of the season so far - No. 4.

On a side note - The Battle of Boulder this weekend could sort who the best team is within Boulder city limits, at least until state.

New to the rankings this week was Monarch, who landed in the No. 8 spot.

4A

Sit down, because we have a new No. 1 in 4A. Yes, you read that right. Battle Mountain, last year's third-place team at NXN, has been overtaken by Niwot, who have run themselves to the No. 11 spot nationally.

Ironically enough, the shake-up up top is almost the only shake-up in 4A this week, as nearly everyone else held their ground.

One thing is for certain, however, is that 4A team race in Colorado Springs next month will sure be one to watch...

3A

The story isn't Peak to Peak remaining on top. The story isn't The Classical Academy maintaining their No. 2 spot. The story is Elizabeth leaping five spots to No. 5 this week.

After a big win at Fort Morgan, Elizabeth finds themselves in great position to storm the top three in another month.

2A

Let's just say this out-loud for the sake of keeping with what's becoming a tradition each week: Lyons remains the Lions of 2A.

Ok. Now that that's out of my system...

What about what's going on behind them? Now we've got another storyline...

Buena Vista has gone from unranked, to a big time threat. They've continued to make huge gains, landing in the No. 2 spot this week - a season best. Likewise, Platte Canyon is riding their coattails to the top, landing in No. 3 this week.

On the backside of the rankings Crested Butte returned, landing in the No. 7 spot.
