Q) Talk about the recruitment process - what other schools were you looking at, and how did you come to choosing the Northern Colorado?
Along with Northern Colorado, I was also looking at the University of Wyoming and the University San Francisco. The recruitment process wasn't too hard until it came down to making the final decision. It was difficult because I had three great options and there were pros and cons to weigh out. I came to choosing University of Northern Colorado because I loved the team dynamic and atmosphere. It worked great because I wanted to stay close to home. The coaches from UNC did everything they could to make me feel welcomed and wanted. This gave me confirmation that this is the place for me and that they liked who I was as a person and not just an athlete.
Q) What do you plan to study at Northern Colorado?
I don't quite know exactly what I want to study yet, but I do know I want it to be something I am passionate about. I was thinking since hurdles is something I'm very passionate about and never get sick of, that I should include that in my job or what I study. So possibly kinesiology or something in the field of being a coach/trainer.
Q) What got you interested in track and field in the first place?
The first time I ever ran track was in middle school. 8th grade year I came out for track and didn't have any idea what I was doing. I saw hurdles set up and asked what they were! My coach said you run and jump over them so I tried it! Ever since then I fell in love with hurdles.
Q) You've had success in both the 100 hurdles, and the 300 hurdles, what would you consider to be your main event, and what event do you see yourself focusing on at Northern Colorado?
I definitely would say that 100 hurdles are my main event. Every time I run them I feel like I'm flying over them and I just love how fast it is. As I began to get faster over the years I find joy in running the 100 hurdles more than anything. At University of Northern Colorado I plan to focus mainly on the 100 hurdles but I am going to give 400 hurdles a chance and see how that goes next year.
Q) Could you share any goals you have for the upcoming track season?
The goals I have for this track season is to enjoy every moment. This is my last season in high school and I just want to soak in every moment with my teammates, coaches, racing, and having fun through it all. I want to appreciate the time I have left with the awesome people on my team and be a good influence for them. Yes, I do wish to get faster times and improve, but when I look back on my time and intentions for my last season of high school, I want to see joy and the unforgettable moments with my team and coaches.
Q) What would your favorite high school moment be (so far)?
My first favorite moment of high school so far would be at the end of last year when my worship class and I lead chapel. We sang the song multiplied and had so much energy and happiness while leading. We were all dancing and looking at one another smiling and having the best time up on stage. I will always remember that moment. My second favorite was also at the end of last year when Anna Hall, Lizzie Waters, and I swept the 100 hurdles. That day it was raining so hard but we didn't let that affect us. We a ran our hardest and it paid off. To experience that moment with them was so amazing. I still remember the way it felt to run through the rain with them and just the amount of content I had.
