CHSCA Multi-Sport Clinic On Tap

By Brett Shanklin

I hope you all are having a great summer. I am sure many of you are already busy coaching your athletes to this next year of success. I want to remind all you that the CHSCA Multi Sport Clinic is this coming weekend. The clinic offers an excellent lineup for cross country coaches but also several general sessions that are definitely worth attending. There will also be sessions to complete rules meetings, concussion training, and mental health training.

The Cross Country sessions feature a fantastic lineup this year which you will not want to miss. Friday will start with Brian Runyon of Heritage High School and his presentation titled "From Bed Bugs and Police Tape to Mustang Convertibles."

If you know Coach Runyon this will be an entertaining session that gives insight to the program he has built at Heritage. The next presenter will be Scott Dahlberg who is the Unviversity of Wyoming mens and womens Head Cross Country/Distance Coach. Scott has quickly elevated the University of Wyoming Mens distance program upon his arrival in 2017. He will be presenting on "Training and Culture at Altitude." We are privileged this year to have Corbin Talley of Weber State University present two sessions. Many coaches are familiar with Corbin from his time as the Head Coach at Davis High School in Utah. He will be presenting on "Team Culture" and "Very Simple, Very Basic." These are two presentations you will not want to miss that will elevate your program. Our last presenter of the weekend will be Lisa Rainsberger of Kokopelli Running Club. Her presentation is titled "Coaching Youth Runners." Lisa brings a ton of knowledge and experience that has helped multiple athletes across the state. We are privileged to have her present at the clinic. Besides our presenters we will also have our XC/Track Regional Rep Meeting to discuss CHSCA Awards as well as any topics/concerns about our sport.

Lastly, my term as President ends at the conclusion of the clinic. We are looking for a 4A or 5A coach to take over. Duties include attending CHSCA Meetings, writing three articles for the CHSCA Digital Magazine, attending CHSAA Track and XC Committee Meetings, and putting together the speaker lineup for the cross country portion of the Multi-Sport Clinic. The new President does not have to put the Track Clinic together.  If you are interested please email me at shanklinb@frontieracademy.net.

If you have not signed up for the clinic you still can. Go to https://www.colohsca.org/home and register today. Hope to see you all soon.
