Top Stories Of 2019 No. 2: Hall Shatters Her Own Hep Record

When you're setting records you're setting All-Time records - that means you're not only better than everyone you're competing with in the moment, but you're better than everyone in history

The numbers don't lie - Ann Hall is just the greatest there is.

She's not just great in any one event - it's many, which is why she excelled at the heptathlon.

Hall is the greatest high school heptathlete ever. Well actually, she was in 2018 too when she set the national high school record, but she reset it in 2019, pushing the record further out of reach, thus elevating her GOAT status.

But before we get to that, let's shake down Hall's laundry list of personal records to get a better glimpse of how great she really was on the track (and in the field...)

Hall wasn't just great collectively across many events, she was great individually as well.

Indoors, her 19-9 long jump was a US No. 9, her 5-11.5 high jump was a US No. 5, while outdoors her 41.34 300H was No. 7, along with her 5-10.5 high jump, also a No. 7.

Back in the state of Colorado, she defended her state titles in the 100H and 300H while helping Valor claim the overall team title.

Indoors she was the New Balance Nationals Indoor pentathlon national champion going away - she dominated the competition by nearly 500 points, while she claimed gold at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, before going on to her record setting, gold medal performance at the Pan-American U20 Championships

Her 5,847 points reset her own national high school record, and it was ranked No. 4 in the world among those under 20.

Anna Hall's myriad of national titles, and state titles, along with her gold medal performance at the Pan American U20 Championships where she reset her national high school heptathlon record are more than deserving of the No. 2 Story of 2019. Hall definitely earned her G.O.A.T. status.

New National High School Heptathlon Record: Check

Oh yeah, and did I mention her 5,847 points currently rank No. 4 in the world among those under 20?

And when I write "Her" I'm referring to Anna Record Breaker Hall

Hall tallied her best performance of her high school career, donning the red, white and blue in San Jose, Costa Rica for the Pan-American U20 Championships this past weekend.

The phrase "saving your best for last" can easily be applied here, because Hall capped her big performance with a 2:10.11 personal best in the 800.

Beyond her insane half-mile to further push her national record out of reach, what did it take?

A 14.11 victory in the 100 Hurdles, a 5'11.5 victory in the high jump, a 41-10 victory in the shot put, a 24.22 victory in the 200, a 18-2 fifth-place finish in the long jump, a 110-56 sixth place finish in the javelin, and of course the cherry on top: that 2:10.11 victory in the 800 which won the event by a clear 14 seconds.

Boom.

The Georgia Bulldogs clearly have a lot to be excited about - they're getting the high school national record holder.

And Hall wasn't the only Coloradan to bring home some hardware.

Max Manson claimed bronze in the pole vault. The future Stanford Cardinal went 16-9 to finish third behind American Branson Ellis, who won the event in 17-5, and Pablo Zaffaroni Unrein from Argentina.

Hopefully their medals were considered a free carry-on for the flight home."
