High Country Hustle At The Western Colorado HS Open

In the hurdles Titus Jackson came out of the gates swinging

The future Western Mountaineer made himself at home inside the Mountaineer Field House. Jackson claimed the 60H in 8.51 - a Colorado No. 6. That's also the first time he's competed in the event.

Titus also finished second to Jackson in the 60.

Tyler Cutrone made no contest of the 400. The Montezuma-Cortez senior ran away from the field with a 53.81 clocking.

Likewise, Nico Piliero swept the 800-1,600 combo.

The 800 saw a great battle in Heat 1 one with Gannon Seagren holding off a late charge from Brennan Stice. Seagren took the win in the heat in 2:11, just ahead of Stice's 2:12, but the big W would go to Piliero, who soloed a 2:07 in Heat 2.

The victory would be his second of the day, as he won the 1,600 with a brilliant final lap. Piliero's 4:49 was just ahead of Gage Nielsen's 4:51.

Of the more grueling - but exciting - races of the day was the 1,600 steeple. Add 7,750 feet of elevation, a mile of lung burn, and some steeples, and you get Jeffrey Fiantaca with the W. The Central (GJ) senior ran off and away with a 5:38 victory.

Meanwhile, Gavin Webb jumped into the Colorado Top 10 in the high jump. The Basalt sophomore went 6-0 for a Colorado No. 8
