Senior Swan Song: Makenna Turner

Name: Makenna Turner

School: Peak to Peak Charter School

Q) What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?

At Mullen in 2018, I wiped out during the 100m dash live on broadcast. I completely cheese-grated my body and it almost took me out for the rest of the season.

Q) If you could do it all over again what would you change about your career in high school?

I have yet to have a season with the same set of coaches. It makes it hard to adjust and get into a rhythm during the season, especially when everyone has different goals they're trying to achieve.

Q) What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Being a very academic athlete, I had to learn quickly how to balance all my AP/Honors classes, clubs, internships, and research with my athletic schedule. Many days this meant waking up early and going to bed around 12 or 1am.

Q) What will you miss the most?

I have a lot of friends at other schools that I love to watch race at meets. I miss being able to cheer them on and watch them grow as athletes.

Q) What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Never take a training opportunity for granted - If you don't take it someone else will.

Q) What are your college plans?

I plan on attending Stanford University next Fall!

Q) Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

I would like to say thank you to my mom for always coming to my meets and supporting me, and my offseason coaches at REAL Training for believing in me both as a student and an athlete.
