Big Air At The Broomfield Shootout

The distance events were a big highlight of the day - there were plenty of top-10 state performances across the board.

Starting off the day was the elite 3,200, and Ben Conlin dropped the first of two personal bests on the day. Conlin ran away for a 9:10.61 victory.

Grahm Tuohy-Gaydos was just five seconds back in 9:15.21, while Jacob White was hot on his heels in third in 9:17.13.

A total of five broke 9:23, including Lukas Haug and Jayden Nats, who ran 9:21, and 9:22. Additionally, 14 broke 10 minutes.

Heading down in distance, Ryan Montera stormed away for the victory in the 1,600, running a PR of 4:15.00. The Legacy senior used the third lap to distance himself from the field, though Conlin, who doubled back from the 3,200, gave chase in the final 400. Montera held on for the W, however, and Conlin had his second PR of the day, running 4:15.95. Caden Smith also dipped under 4:17, running 4:16.95 to finish third.

Several hours later Smith battled Lukas Haug in the final strides of the 800, with Haug kicking late to win the event in 1:56.13, which was just ahead of Smith's 1:56.63.

Heading way down in distance, Dante Capolungo, and Kyle Dempsey made a race of the 100. The two were separated by three-hundredths of a second, with Capolungo taking the win here in 11.06 to Dempsey's 11.09.

Carsen Bruns was the name in the hurdles. The Rampart junior won the 110 Hurdles going away in 14.45, and the 300 Hurdles in a state-leading 38.18.

Likewise, Braiden Dishman swept the throws, winning the discus in a PR of 162-06, and the shot put in 51-07.25.

Highlands Ranch took the boy's team title, tallying 92.5 points, which was just ahead of Fossil Ridge's 86, and Rampart's 83.
