Race Under The Lights At The Sundown XC 5k

Picture this...

To the west an orange Colorado sunset. The sky shades over in cotton-candy hues of purples and blues. A cross country course over freshly cut grass.

Night falls.

But the course. Lights. UP!

The beat drops, echoing across vast green fields. The scent of a steaming grill from a foot-truck lingers in the air. Race time arrives.

The gun goes off. You're racing over hay bales, and through light-tunnels. (Light tunnels?!)

Cross Country + Music + Food + Light tunnels = A good time.

While the official season gets underway is just over four weeks, the Sundown XC 5k at the Aurora Sports Park looks to cap summer training with a raging cross country race under the lights.

"It is meant to be an end of summer training, fun and competitive event," said Keith Johnson. "It'll be under the lights. There'll be a light show, music, food truck, XC fun."

The event is being modeled after Detweiller After Dark, which is a high-octane, neon-lit cross country race that nearly resembles a rave.

"We know high school teams train as clubs all summer," Johnson explained. "This is a good event to test the summer training. Teams can sign up with top 5 scoring."
