Flying High At The JeffCo 4A/5A League Championship

Lily Mourer came out swinging.

The Golden senior had twice finished second at the Jefferson County 4A League Championship, and once sixth.

She was determined not to cap her senior season without claiming this race - that much was obvious a kilometer in to Thursday's race.

Mourer made this one a solo-effort, dominating the field from the opening strides to the final strides, running 19:41.

Meanwhile Audrey VanWestrienen spent most of the race in the hunt.

The Conifer junior - who won this race last year - ran a season-best of 19:53 to take the runner-up spot. Given that the performance was the best of her season yet suggests that she's sharpening up right in time for State...

D'Evelyn's Jayden Miller took third in 20:25, while Golden put two in the top-four with freshman Sophia Halverson finishing fourth in 20:46.

Cue the pencils...

While Mourer ran away with the individual title, Golden ran away with the team title.

Freshman Mackenzie Buxton finished fifth, while sophomore Kendyl Weston finished eighth to given Golden four inside the top-eight. Freshman Elsa Vessely closed the door for Golden, finishing 14th.

Editor's Note: If you've been reading carefully, you'll notice that four of Golden's top-five are underclassmen. In other words - they've got a few great races in front of them...

Golden took the team title with an impressive 33 points. Green Mountain took second with 72, while D'Evelyn took third with 111.
