It's official.
Scottie Vines has broken the Colorado high jump state record!
The DeBeque senior cleared 7-4.25 at the Phil Wertman Invitational to etch his names into the record books.
The performance came just one week after clearing 7-2 at the Frank Woodburn Invitational, and two weeks after clearing 7-4.25 at the Texas Relays.
But now Vines has completed the feat of clearing the previous state record on Colorado soil, which solidifies him as the state record holder.
The previous record of 7-4 was held by Matt Hemingway, set in 1991.
Vines' performance marked the fourth consecutive time he's cleared seven-feet this spring, and it was a US No. 1.
He currently leads the country in the event by two-and-a-half inches, and he lead Colorado by over six-inches.
Vines is the two-time defending 1A state champion in the high jump.
Check out his progression over high school:
Senior | 7-4.25 |
Junior | 7-0 |
Sophomore | 6-10 |
Freshmen | 5-11 |
...
What adds to the legacy Vines has accumulated over his career, consider that over the past 20-years, he cleared seven-feet more than any high jumper in Colorado history.
He owns the top-four performances, and five of the top-six - that level of consistency is impressive within itself.
